About the event

We marvel at the wonder of birds, but birds also help us wonder about the world itself. We learn from birds. We mimic them. They help us forecast the weather and remember when to harvest fruits and dig roots.

All over the world, stories about birds link us to cosmology, history, creative expression, and identity. Birds help us connect to our extended ecological selves. What would be lost if birds were to drop out of our experience?

This talk explores this question by telling the stories of how we think about the world with birds—how we fly with them in our imaginations and see them as omens of the future.
