About the event

Celebrate 400 years of the First Folio edition of Shakespeare’s plays by printing a page of The Tempest, set in type by hand. See printing as it was done in 1623.

To celebrate the anniversary of the First Folio, the Bodleian Bibliographical Press has organised a type reproduction of the first page of the first play in that book, The Tempest. Two modern typesetters have reproduced this page in hand-set type, recreating the habits, faults and foibles of the original compositors of the First Folio.

Come along to the Weston Library to find out more and print your own.

The printed The Tempest sheets are on sale in the Bodleian Shop. Read reflections on the printing experiment from typesetter Michael Daniell on the Conveyor blog.
