About the event
In celebration of the gift of nearly 1000 books kindly donated to the Bodleian Libraries by novelist Ian McEwan, a distinguished panel of speakers, including scholars and translators Professor Karen Leeder (University of Oxford) and Professor Patrick McGuinness (University of Oxford), and Ian McEwan, will discuss the art and craft of translation.
- 5.15–6.15pm: Panel discussion in the Sir Victor Blank Lecture Theatre, Weston Library
- 6.15–7pm: Drinks reception in Blackwell Hall, Weston Library
The collection given by Ian McEwan to the Bodleian includes books in many languages, including: Albanian, Arabic, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.
