About this event
In 1955, a diverse collection of written, printed, and visual material about Jericho was entered into a countywide community scrapbook competition. Capturing the neighbourhood just as it escaped wholesale demolition, it is now held by the Bodleian Library.
In 2025, the Jericho Living Heritage Trust published a transcription as A Jericho Scrapbook, edited and annotated by local historian and Jericho Living Heritage Trust chair Mark Davies. Compiled by former St Hilda’s student Constance Hawtrey, it records the work, play, joys and sorrows of Jericho residents.
In this illustrated talk, Mark uses the Scrapbook to explore 200 years of Jericho’s history, notable figures, and misconceptions.
Signed copies of the book will be available from the Bodleian shop.
Speaker
Mark Davies is a local historian and chair of the Jericho Living Heritage Trust.
