About this event

The Weston Library will be showcasing some of the finest live acts as part of the Oxford Folk Festival 2024. Drop in and enjoy traditional and modern music from folk songs to sea shanties.

11.30am: Jericho Singers love to sing songs from a whole range of music from jazz to pop, folk to classical, R&B to hip hop, as well as songs about the canal and life on and around it. Their musical director is Steph Pirrie, also a member of local trio The Three Idle Women.

12.30pm: Monkey See Monkey Do combine the talents of clarinettist Helen Gentile, fiddle and bodhran player Matthew Aldous, with lead singer, multi-instrumentalist and all-round good guy Samuel Horlock. Their repertoire of songs and tunes is firmly rooted in the English tradition with influences from the British Isles, Europe, Scandinavia and North America.

1.15pm: Jaybirds, led by Jay Mathews, are a group of eight vibrant women who share their enthusiasm for singing in close harmony. Jaybirds sing any songs that take their fancy! This gives them a wide range of material, from traditional songs, through spirituals to contemporary folk.

2pm: Quest for Folk is a student-founded group based in Oxford who love that funky folk vibe! Led by Callum Beck, they feature current and past members of the Oxford University Ceilidh Band, the National Youth Folk Ensemble and HalfPipe.

2.45pm: Short Drag Roger are Oxfordshire’s premier crew of landlocked shantymen, and they have performed across the UK and Europe. They offer great 8-part harmonies, traditional shanties, and modern sea songs. If you’d like to learn some of their skills, join their vocal workshop in Blackwells’ Meeting Room (top floor) at 11am on Sunday 21 April.
