About the event

Chew, touch, sniff – our Sensational Books exhibition explores our experiences of books through all our senses. Join us this October half term for a morning of fantastic family activities:

  • Giant poem printing: Help the Bodleian printers to print and decorate a giant experimental scroll featuring a poem by Jenny Joseph, celebrating the senses.
  • Keepsake printing: Print your own spooky Sensational Books keepsake on the Albion Press.
  • Make a sensory book: Fold a mini book inspired by the senses and fill it with poetry, sounds, smells, pictures and textures.
  • Eat your words: Add a message to a wafer scroll and eat your words.
  • Family exhibition tour: Join our volunteer guide to experience the Sensational Books exhibition with a family-friendly audio-described tour.
  • Sensational Books Alice trail: Take a trail and wonder at a surreal world of books that say 'eat me', books fit for a queen, and a magna carta nibbled by a (dor?)mouse.
