About this event

‘What is the use of a book,’ thought Alice, ‘without pictures or conversations?’

Join us to celebrate Alice’s Day with family activities: step through the story door to Wonderland with storyteller Lucy Walters, make your own concertina matchbox book, print a crown fit for the Queen of Hearts, and illustrate Alice’s adventures. You'll also be able to see an animation of Japanese artist Hiroko Hanna’s exquisite Emaki-mono scrolls showing the real Alice Liddell as the heroine of the story.

For ages 5 to 11.

 10.30am – 3.30pm: Family craft activities

 10.30–11.00am & 11.30am–12.00pm: Storytelling with Lucy Walters

In our Sensational Books exhibition, you can wonder at a surreal world of books that say 'eat me', books fit for a Queen, and a Magna Carta nibbled by a hungry (dor?)mouse.
