About the event
It’s now 50 years since White-tailed Eagles were successfully reintroduced to the UK after being driven to extinction. To celebrate this success, the RSPB created this celebratory film, Return, to tell the story of how the UK’s largest bird of prey were brought back to our skies in a true conservation success story.
Join us for a lunchtime viewing of Return: a celebration of White-tailed Eagles, followed by a Q&A with Dave Sexton, one of the people who made it happen; Mark Fountain, the producer of the film; and Alice Boyd, the musician who composed the film's soundtrack.
Speakers
Dave Sexton started working on the White-tailed Eagles reintroduction project in the early 80s, protecting the first nests in 1984, and the first chick in 1985. He went on to become the RSPB's Mull Officer in 2003, helping to promote the Scottish island as a top wildlife-watching tourism destination whilst always championing the eagles. He retired in 2024 and is now an RSPB Ambassador.
Mark Fountain is a film producer and manager of the RSPB’s multimedia team. He specialises in video storytelling with community and culture at its heart.
Alice Boyd is a South London-based musician, sound artist and audio producer whose work invites people to listen more closely to the natural world and our place within it. Working with voice, field recordings, composition and interviews, she creates songs and sound works that explore our connection to the landscapes we call home. Alice wrote the soundtrack for Return, and appears within the film too.
